Pros and Cons of Using a Bail Bond Service




There are many advantages and disadvantages of using a bond service. With so many agencies available, it can be difficult trying to decide on one A bail bond is basically a guarantee that someone who is arrested will in fact show up for court. In order to meet the bond, a person will have to put up some sort of collateral in the form of money or property. Let us say for an example that someone in your family has been arrested and the bond has been set for thirty thousand dollars. The thirty thousand must be paid before the defendant can be released. Most people can't afford a bond that high, so that is when a Bondsman comes in. They come up with the money to get the person out. They usually charge a ten percent nonrefundable fee.


If you did not use a bail bond agency, you would have to come up with the entire amount yourself. If the defendant does not show up for court or skips bail, you are responsible for the total amount of the bond.
